GREENSBORO, N.C.Rookie Kristen Roberts (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) scored 14 points off the bench and sparked Guilford College to a 67-55 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday. The victory snapped the Quakers’ three-game losing streak, their longest since 2015.

Roberts, Guilford’s top scorer after 12 games, tallied 12 second-half points, including 10 straight over the third and fourth quarters. She beat the third-quarter horn with a runner in the lane that gave the Quakers (8-4, 4-4 ODAC) their largest lead to that point, 47-39. Roberts opened the fourth-quarter scoring with eight straight points, including two three-pointers, which doubled Guilford’s margin to 55-39 with eight minutes left in regulation. Eastern Mennonite (2-11, 1-6 ODAC) drew no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Despite their lackluster record, the visiting Royals gave the preseason ODAC favorites all they could handle for the better part of 30 minutes. Eastern Mennonite’s Chrissy Delawder scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the first three quarters, including all three of her three-pointers. The Royals stroked seven of their nine three-pointers in the first three frames, which kept them in the game.

Before Roberts took over in the fourth, Guilford effectively worked the ball inside to seniors Julie Carini (10 points) and Miracle Walters (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) (11 points), who combined to shoot 9-of-17 from the floor. Carini added a game-high 11 rebounds, which helped the hosts to a 43-28 margin in the battle of the boards. Guilford held Eastern Mennonite to just four offensive rebounds. The Quakers’ Lindsay Gauldin (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) contributed 12 points, five rebounds (all offensive), three assists and three steals. Roberts also had a game-high four steals.
