ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s basketball fell to Delaware, 79-78, on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The Phoenix was led by freshman forward Hunter Woods, who dropped 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists on the evening. Sophomore guard Andy Pack chipped in a season-high 16 points and four rebounds, while freshman guard Hunter McIntosh added 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Delaware was led by Nate Darling, who recorded 21 points in the contest. Ryan Allen (18 pts & 5 ast) and Justyn Mutts (17 pts & 5 reb) were the other double digit scorers for the Blue Hens.
After falling behind 8-2 early in the first half, Marcus Sheffield knocked down his first three of the game to spark a 16-4 Elon run. Moments later, back-to-back triples by Andy Pack gave the Phoenix its first lead at 13-12. Hunter Woods added another three to cap the spurt, and put Elon on top 18-12 at the midway point of the opening half.
With the score sitting at 28-25 with just under four minutes remaining in the first half, Pack knocked down back-to-back threes for the second time in the game to give the Phoenix a 31-28 advantage. Shortly after, a Chuck Hannah mid-range jumper capped a 10-0 burst that gave Elon a seven-point advantage with less than a minute before the break.
Elon entered the half leading 35-33.
Trailing 41-37 early in the second half, Hannah accounted for back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 41. After the Blue Hens scored a quick two points, Zac Ervin drained his first triple of the evening to give the Phoenix a one-point lead.
Both sides traded baskets for the remainder of the half, but Delaware held on in the final seconds to secure a 79-78 win.

– Elon held a 10-2 advantage in second chance points and a 6-3 advantage in fast break points
– The Phoenix outscored Delaware 25-14 in bench points
Elon will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 23, to continue CAA play against Towson. That matchup is slated for 7 p.m. at Schar Center and will be streamed live on FloSports.
