East Surry broke open a close game with a flurry of third-quarter three-pointers to defeat East Forsyth 68-44 in the final game of the Martin Luther King Memorial Holiday Tournament at North Davidson High School Saturday night.

East Forsyth, which won a grueling double-overtime Central Piedmont 4A Conference game last night at Reagan, led early and kept the Cardinals close throughout the first half, trailing by six at the break. But East Surry built its second-hand lead quickly in the third period behind consecutive three-pointers on three possessions by Quincy Smith and another by Jefferson Boaz to stretch its lead to 15 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals, now 6-4, led by as many as 28 in the final period as the Eagles’ energy faded and both teams cleared their benches. Boaz led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as part of East Surry’s +14 advantage on the boards. Zyun Reeves led the East with nine points & ten rebounds.

The Eagles return home Tuesday for their final non-conference game of the season against 3A power Parkland before returning to CPC action next Thursday night at home against Davie County.
