East Forsyth overcame a five-point first overtime deficit & held on for a thrilling 73-71 double overtime win over Reagan High School Friday night on the Raiders’ home floor. Will Rhodes led the Eagles with a season-high 28 points, including six in the final period as East won its second Central Piedmont 4A Conference win in three starts.

The Eagles led by as many as ten (38-28) in the first half & held the lead through a tight second half before falling behind in the final minute. Jalen Thorns hit the second of two free throws with 40 seconds left to tie the game at 60 & send it into the first extra period.

Jared Gray, the Raiders’ leading scorer with 23, and Happle Randolph staked Reagan to a 65-60 lead in the first OT with early field goals but East fought back to tie the game inside 30 seconds on a Jordan Timmons’ steal & layup. He was fouled on the play but missed the free throw. After a Reagan turnover, Timmons’ half-court shot at the buzzer bounced off the back of the rim.

East never trailed in the second overtime, opening with a rebound basket by Brion Jones in the first minute & to driving baskets by Rhodes after 2 steals by Thorns to push the lead to 72-67 with 1:18 left. Gray & Owen Koivisto scored for Reagan after open East possessions but Rhodes hit one of two free throws with 33 seconds left & Zyun Reeves grabbed two of his game-high 16 rebounds on the Raiders’ final missed shots to secure the win for the Eagles.

East Forsyth is on the road again tomorrow night at 7:30p in a tournament game at North Davidson against East Surry, the last of a four-game holiday event.
