College Track and Field News: Guilford Competed at JDL Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Guilford College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the JDL College Invitational on Sunday at the JDL Fast Track. The meet featured a mix of NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA competition.

Freshman Julia Taylor paced the Quakers as she set a new program record in the 200-meter run. Taylor was 29th and clocked a 28.66, bettering the time set by Carmen Curtis two years ago. Additionally, she was 20th in the 400M run after posting a time of 1:06.20.

In the mile run, freshman Emily Winder ran a 5:58.59 mile and placed 17th of 24 runners. Sophomore Micheleigh Higgins was 31st of 41 competitors in the shot put after recording a mark of 8.58 meters.

On the men’s side, freshman Andriquez Brooks notched the best weight throw mark in Quaker history. His 11.10 distance surpassed the previous record of Alex Heck set two seasons ago. Teammate AJ Dalmasi was 19th after his 9.28M in the event. It was the fifth-best weight throw in Quaker lore. Dalmasi, a freshman, also notched the fourth-best shot put distance (10.67M) in GC men’s history. He was 27th of 35 competitors.

In the long jump, KJ Dorsey was 16th of 39 in the long jump with a 6.29M leap. Senior Jeremiah Hedrick (6.24M) and sophomore Tre Alexander (6.22M) were 17th and 18th respectively.

The Quakers return to action on Feb. 24 at the Finn Pincus Invitational. The two-day meet is hosted by Roanoke College in Salem, Va.
