The Morehead Panthers and the Rockingham County Cougars met in a Mid State Athletic 2A/3A Conference matchup on Tuesday night in Eden. The Panthers picked up a much needed 88-43 win after dropping three of their last four games since starting the season with a perfect 11-0 record.

1st Quarter- Though the Cougars got off to a quick 5-0 start in the opening moments of the game, it only a few minutes for the Morehead Panthers to get into a rhythm. Blake Byrd hit three 3-pointers to get the Panthers on track and before the quarter was over Shytiek Lampkin had added two more. Strong inside play and eight points by the Cougars Mason McDow kept the Cougars close as the first period came to an end with Panthers up 21-16.

2nd Quarter- The second period was strong for Morehead as they hit another three 3-pointers. Blake Byrd and Javen Chandler each contributed six points as the Panthers managed to stretch the lead and take an eighteen point lead into halftime.

3rd Quarter- The Panthers got seven points from Chandler and another six from Kenyan Allen in the third period as they began to stretch the lead. Back to back steals and dunks by Lampkin and Kenyan Alllen fired up the home crowd and aided the Panthers in stretching the lead by another twelve to take a thirty point lead into the final period.

4th Quarter- The final period saw Javen Chandler chip in another eleven points to seal the win for Morehead.

With the win the Panthers (12-3: 5-2) join a four-way tie atop the conference with McMichael, Northern Guilford and Western Alamance. The Panthers return to play on Friday against a strong Person County team who the Panthers defeated earlier in the season. The Cougars fall to 2-14; 0-7 and return to play on Friday as they host Western Alamance
