High School Basketball Tonight(1/22/2020) in Guilford County:NWG(15-2) girls at Ragsdale(14-2) on center stage/The Headliner this evening

Northwest Guilford at Ragsdale girls at 6/boys at 7:30pm….NWG girls(15-2/2-0) vs. Ragsdale(14-2/1-0)…Ragsdale boys(6-11/0-2) vs. Northwest Guilford(14-3/2-0)

Girls game NWG with Reagan Kargo, Thalia Carter, Megan Harkey, Hannah Baker and Aniston Greene…That’s four seniors and a junior for the Vikings….Ragsdale can counter with Mariah Frazier, Diamond Monroe, Nyah Stallings, Alyssa Bradford and Aijah Palmore…That’s three juniors and two seniors…Ragsdale with four guards and the big post with Palmore…Northwest Guilford, pretty much the same with four guards and the big post Megan Harkey….Ragsdale can switch to the double-post, and create their own version of the ‘twin towers’, when the Tigers go with Palmore and 6’3 Katarina Maros….Northwest can also roll with their own creation of the ‘twin towers’, when the Vikings run with the 6’6 Harkey, joined in the post by 6’1 Jadyn Murray…

The NWG girls may have the deeper bench, and that might not be a factor, because in a tight game like this one, you may want to keep your starters on the floor every possible minute that you can, and that might be a key factor in this game that nobody else is looking at, the clock operator…Whoever is keeping the time for this game will be a very important part of the process..Old father or mother time tonight in Jamestown, will have to be a key character in the outcome of this game, and the timing will have to be near-perfect….

Back on the Northwest Guilford girls bench…They will come at you with girls like Hannah Parker, Shaena Riddles, Kamryn Pegram, and one of the reserves that we feel might see the most playing time of all, the freshman, Madison Young…Madison Young has proven she can go with the top players in key moments in all games, and don’t be surprised to see this freshman get as many minutes as some of the starters tonight in Jamestown…Kailyn Young is another freshman that might be able to help out in the post for NWG, if necessary…

When Ragsdale goes to their bench they look to Victoria Boddie, a small guard who has good shooting range and she plays tight, harassing defense…Ragsdale also rolls in Moriah Simmons, Megan Byrd and Erin Mackie, with Simmons and Byrd working as guards, and Mackie plays around the basket..Still have the thinking that Northwest Guilford has the edge in bench strength and that if Ragsdale can get Monroe, Frazier and Stallings going on offense, that will parlay into Ragsdale being able to set up what defenses they want to run, this will also allow Ragsdale to trap more on defense and tighten up their defense…

We might see two girls basketball teams trapping each other all over the place tonight, or the coaches might want to play it differently and get back on defense, set their defenses up and play some zone, so that they can save their starters for the later stages of this game….It will be hard for the girls to control their emotions early in this game, since so much is on the line tonight…The Metro 4-A early conference lead will belong to the winner…..

You had Northwest Guilford over Ragsdale 52-30 in the HAECO Tournament Championship Game back on December 28….That’s by 22 points, and tonight’s game doesn’t appear to be anything like that game, unless NWG gets untracked early on and has the chance to ‘let the horses out of the barn’….

NWG with a win back on Monday over the Burlington School, 57-38, at the Tony Perrou Classic @ Southern Alamance High School….Ragsdale was with a lot of the rest of us, watching Southeast Guilford vs. West Forsyth, in the girls overtime battle at Monday’s Rodney Clark Hoops Classic, at Southeast Guilford High School…

Ragsdale’s last game was 11 days ago, back on Saturday January 11, in the Tigers’ 53-45 win at Gastonia Ashbrook….

In 2019, Ragsdale won the HAECO Championship Game over NWG, 50-45…Northwest won both regular season games over Ragsdale, 42-23, at NWG and then NWG won at Ragsdale, 43-27…But the Ragsdale Tigers took the Metro Conference Tournament title with a 39-29 victory over Northwest, at NWG….

The two teams (2-2) last year, and NWG has the edge so far this season/year, up one-game-to-none, with the HAECO Tournament Title….

Game One regular season on the line in Jamestown tonight, and this series has grown hotter and hotter, over the past two years….Be sure to be in Jamestown tonight at 6pm, and when you get to Jamestown, make sure your car is parked in the Ragsdale High School parking lot…..
(Nyah Stallings, Ragsdale senior guard, recently signed to play college basketball with the Liberty University Flames, and congrats to her/Nyah.)

++++++++++++++++++Games plus, with other games today/tonight:
Forsyth Country Day at Greensboro Day with girls at 5:30/boys at 7pm…GDS boys(23-4)/GDS girls(20-2)
