Finals tonight from the Roger Nelson Gym, on the Northwest Guilford High School campus:
Northwest Guilford girls 68, Grimsley 19
Northwest Guilford boys 66, Grimsley 52

The Grimsley girls basketball team’s activity bus was involved in a wreck on the way to the Northwest game, and the wreck occurred on Old Oak Ridge Road and it looked like the Grimsley activity bus rear-ended another vehicle/or vise-versa…The girls game at Northwest was delayed for about 45 minutes, but once it got started it was all Northwest Guilford Vikings….The good thing about the wreck, if there can be a good thing about something like that was, that to my knowledge, nobody was hurt/injured…
Back to the game:End of 1st Q:NWG 20, Grimsley 5….Halftime:NWG 45, Grimsley 7…End of 3rd Q:NWG 59, Grimsley 17…Final:NWG 68, Grimsley 19…(The running clock began on the first Northwest Guilford possession of the second half.)

The three senior captains led Northwest in scoring with Reagan Kargo taking game-honors, with 21 points for the NWG Vikings…Center and fellow-senior/fellow-team
captain Megan Harkey had 11 points for the Vikes, and senior captain Thalia Carter finished up the game with 8 points, for Northwest…
More scoring totals to follow..More NWG scoring: Aniston Greene 7 points, Madison Young and McCall 5 points each, Hannah Baker and Jadyn Murray with 4 each and Hannah Parker with 3 points…
Grimsley scoring:JuJu Gwynn and Ameica Webster 5 points, Destoine Tisdale with 3 points, and 2 each for Jordan Holmes, Sells and Reed….

Boys game:End of 1st Q:Grimsley 16, NWG 16…Halftime:Grimsley 28, NWG 27…End of 3rd Q:NWG 44, Grimsley 40…Final:NWG 66, Grimsley 52..
With 1:25 to play in the game, the score was NWG 57, Grimsley 49…Then the officials hit Grimsley with two quick Technical Fouls, one on Ahmil Flowers and the other on Travis Shaw…NWG nailed 4-6 Free throws(NWG had a two-shot foul situation and the four technical free throws), as Conner Ballou goes 1-2 and Christian Hampton goes 3-4…The score goes from 57-49 NWG, to 61-49 NWG in a matter of seconds, now NWG has the 12-point lead and the ball and at that stage, it was pretty much ball-game….Christian Hampton, from NWG had been hit with an earlier Technical Foul in the second half and the Grimsley Whirlies had a third ‘T’ on them that came earlier and that goes to show you, “the Officials were getting Technical late in this game”…They were “T-ing” ’em up pretty quickly….Christian Hampton had 5 field goals for NWG for 10 points, but I had him hitting 17 free throws and going 17-20 at the Free Throw line, and he was getting to the line a lot in this game…Dean Reiber with 17 points for NWG, while Robbie Boulton and Conner Ballou had 7 points each and Brandon Thomas added five for NWG…
For Grimsley Ronan Martinek-Jenne had 13 points, Ahmil Flowers had 10, Travis Shaw and Tyler Albright had 8 points a-piece, Daniel Cooper had 6, Jayden Wadlington had 5 points, and Lawson Albright had 2 points for the Whirlies…

Christian Hampton went up high and tried to make a play on a lob pass in the first half and he came down hard and bit his tongue and he sat out the last four and a-half minutes of the first half….He also had two fouls, so NWG was able to save him and let him get his tongue back in working order for the second half…Ahmil Flowers and Travis Shaw, from Grimsley, also had to sit out much of the first half with foul trouble, as they had two fouls each early….
(Christian Hampton said a player to keep an eye on is Ja Morant…Morant with the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA…Ja Morant will have his #12 retired on Saturday at Murray State University…Chris Hampton #12 and Ja Morant #12….Morant attended Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina.)

High Point University head basketball coach Tubby Smith was at the game checking out players, and he has Ahmil Flowers committed and signed to attend HPU….The North University of North Carolina had several football assistant coaches at the game and they were watching both Travis Shaw and Lawson Albright from Grimsley, as the Heels hope to get both of those young men in the fold, at UNC…We also got the word confirmed from Grimsley Whirlies head football coach Darryl Brown, that former Page quarterback Alonza Barnett is now enrolled at Grimsley and he will be a junior next season and there is a very good chance that he will be the starting signal-caller for the Grimsley Whirlies in the Fall of 2020….
Former Northwest Guilford head football coach Charlie Groves was in attendance at tonight’s Northwest Guilford-Grimsley basketball games….
