GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tyler Card has been named the sixth head coach in Greensboro College football history, acting Director of Athletics Dr. Robin Daniel announced Tuesday.

“Tyler is a great fit for Greensboro College,” Daniel said. “He embraces the philosophy and priorities that guide the Division III mission and student-athlete experience. I am excited about the impact he will have on individual players, the football program, and our campus at large.”

Card joins the Pride following a five-year stint at Sul Ross State University where he served as the offensive coordinator for the past three seasons. During that time, Card was credited with calling an offense that produced three All-Conference selections in one of the toughest NCAA Division III football conferences in America.

In addition to his coaching experience at Sul Ross, Card also spent time at Pace University, Weber State University, and Southern Virginia University, where he served as a recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach.

“I am humbled and honored to become the head football coach at Greensboro College,” Card said. “I love football and all it has taught me about life. Being able to lead a group of young men is a great responsibility. I want to thank President Czarda, Dr. Daniel, and the rest of the search committee for entrusting me with this opportunity. Greensboro College is a beautiful campus in a great city, and I can’t tell you how excited I am.”

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Card played two years at Southern Virginia University where he earned All-American honors as an offensive lineman and participated in the NAIA Senior All-Star game.

Card graduated from Southern Virginia University in 2010 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Management and Leadership before going on to obtain a Masters of Professional Communication from Weber State University and a Masters of Health and Human Performance from Sul Ross.

Card and his wife, Danielle, have two children, Rocky and Gloria.

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke football head coach Shane Richardson added a wealth of experience to his coaching staff on Tuesday when he announced that former Greensboro College head coach Bill Young has been hired on as defensive coordinator for the Braves.

Young, who will also serve as the linebackers coach for the Black & Gold, brings more than 26 years of collegiate coaching experience to Pembroke, including the last three years as an assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator at nearby St. Andrews.

“Bill brings passion and energy to coaching the game of football that is very visible,” Richardson said. “He has a lot of experience at many different levels and in different roles that makes him a well-rounded coach. His familiarity with the area and state of North Carolina will be a tremendous asset to our program. He cares about student-athletes and fits into our culture very well.”
