Bishop McGuinness faced off against conference rival, #1 in Northwest 1A, Winston-Salem Prep Tuesday evening.

The tough environment didn’t phase an inexperienced Villains squad at the start, as bishop exploded out to a 14-5 lead over the Phoenix. Noah Allred and Dawson McAlhany combined for 13 of the teams 16 points in the opening quarter.

The Phoenix pushed back with a strong second quarter from TJ Mills who finished with game high 19 points. Still, the Villains trailed by just 4 at the break.

The game was back and forth all second half and the Villains finally reclaimed a lead just under four minutes to play after a Noah Allred three pointer from the top of the key. Prep answered right back with Stephen Minor hitting a huge outside shot of his own.

The Phoenix never let go of that lead, even with Bishop having the ball down just two with 1:15 on the clock, Prep came away with a big defensive stop and closed the game at the foul line hitting their final 6 shots from the stripe.

Bishop will be back in action at home on Friday night to face East Surry. Tip-off set for 8:00pm.
