GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s basketball gets back into the win column in the midweek with an 88-68 final against the Citadel, tallying their 11th home win of the season. The Spartans’ 11 wins in Greensboro tie the fifth-most home wins the program has had in a single season, five short of the school record set in the 2017-18 campaign.

“We try to be unique,” said Head Coach Wes Miller. “We certainly have an identity to how we play, and it starts with full court pressure. A lot of times that’s full court zone pressure, but we’ve mixed in a lot of full court man this year. Tonight, we were playing a little more of that, and it starts with that full-court pressure. We try to make you uncomfortable defensively in the half-court, and then we’re trying to play with some pace offensively as well… That’s what we want our identity to be. We’re going to try and impose that will in every game we play.”

Wednesday started off as a three-point shooting contest, with both sides knocking down three from beyond the arc in the opening three minutes. All three of those field goals for the Spartans came from senior Kyrin Galloway, who scored 11 of his team’s first 13 of the night. The Spartans would lead by as many as 10 in the opening 20 minutes, with a 9-0 run midway through the period giving the home squad a 29-19 advantage. The Citadel would respond with nine unanswered points of their own, but the Spartans’ six threes in the opening half were enough to give the side a 40-32 lead at the break.

UNCG and the Bulldogs would combine for 12 field goals from beyond the arc in the first half, but it was the 10 forced turnovers by the Spartan defense that made the ultimate difference early. The hosts scored eight points off of turnover opportunities before the halftime whistle, adding another 13 second chance markers off of nine offensive rebounds.

After watching the Citadel pull back within a possession in the first four minutes of the second half, the remainder of the contest belonged solely to the Spartans. The Bulldogs went without a field goal for eight minutes after the 16-minute mark, while UNCG went on a 22-3 run, and opened up their lead to 25.

The Spartans poured in 48 points in the second period, while knocking down 7-of-10 from beyond the arc and scoring an additional 12 points in transition. Keyshaun Langley(Southwest Guilford High School) added 10 points in the final 20 minutes to finish with a career-high of 17, while Isaiah Miller’s four assists moved his total to six on the night.

UNCG completed the season sweep against the Citadel with an 88-68 final, tallying its eighth win in conference play this season. The Spartans have now won their last 13 games against the Bulldogs and have swept the regular season series against the team for each of the past five years.
