First of all, first impressions first…It was a successful night for the Greensboro Day School Bengals, inside the Dillard Athletic Center on Lawndale Drive…The Bengals won their doubleheader over the High Point Christian Cougars, on what was both Homecoming Night and Senior Night at the DAC…

The Bengals won both games going away, but since we are talking about the lasting impressions, that DAC was packed tonight, and the since the place was packed, the House was also hot…That was one of the biggest, and tightly packed in crowds that I have ever seen at GDS, and I have been attending Homecoming and Senior Night games there for over 20 years…

Dillard Athletic Center was packed in to the tune of, “Standing Room Only”, on this Friday night and this makes the second week in a-row that I have been part of a PACKED House…Last Friday night it was over at Smith, for Smith vs. Dudley, and the fans were packed into that Ben L. Smith Gym, like it was a sardine can…Tonight it was “The DAC” that was packed, and it wasn’t because the Bengals were playing High Point Christian…GDS could have been played Vandalia Christian or Level Cross Christian, and that placed would have still been packed tonight…

The GDS Bengals draw them into The DAC for Homecoming and Senior Night and like I was saying earlier, it was getting ‘hot in the house’…It was a good thing HPCA AD Corey Gesell was there….He threw open a couple of the back doors at halftime during the Homecoming Court announcements, and it was a good thing he did, because when he opened those doors, some of us that were about to pass out, we came back to life….It was getting very warm in that gym…

Corey Gesell, the HPCA AD and baseball coach was there tonight…Ed Johnson the girls basketball coach at Page was there…Scott Bell, the football coach at HPCA was there…Coach Bell was there supporting the HPCA Cougars and his daughter Sydney, who plays for the HPCA girls basketball team…The HPCA girls basketball team is coached by Brittany Drew, the former Page Pirates High School basketball player….We saw Silas Mason, Smith Golden Eagles basketball player, he was there…Silas’ dad was there and wearing his trademark ball cap, and bill of his ball cap up…Desmond Sturdivant, the former Smith Golden Eagles and Hampton Pirates football player, he was there with his dad, Mr. Sturdivant…Lots of Smith Eagles people there, supporting former Smith Eagle Cam Hayes, on Hayes’ Greensboro Day School Senior Night…

Randy Doss the former Greensboro College and Guilford College leader and now Greensboro Day School Director of Admissions, he was there…Lots of Greensboro Day School Bengals, past and present, they were there tonight….Ed Johnson, now with Page HS, he was once with GDS, as a girls basketball coach…

Spotlight on the GDS Girls Basketball team…Spotlight on Je’Bria Fullwood and Caroline Wyrick, from the Greensboro Day School girls basketball team, with both of these young ladies, representing the Junior class on the Homecoming Court at halftime…

You have to be proud of those two kids, now young ladies and featured members of the 2020 Homecoming Court, at the Greensboro Day School…Seems like we have been watching Je’Bria “Full Throttle” Fullwood and Caroline Wyrick playing basketball, since back when they were little kids and now as fate would have it, they are part of a Championship caliber basketball team there at Greensboro Day, and they are a part of the Homecoming Court too…Just hard to put into words how proud we are of those two, Fullwood and Wyrick…Je’Bria was escorted at halftime by her brother, and Caroline was escorted by her dad, and I think his name was Mr. David Wyrick…

GDS boys coach Freddy Johnson was wearing what seems to be his trademark blue sports shirt/dress shirt and his trademark light tie, and the tie might be light green or a light yellow and the shirt and tie must have a lot of luck in them, because Coach Johnson must have over a 1,000 wins alone, while wearing that blue shirt and that light tie….Seems to working quite well, again in 2020…

I think I am on the money when I say from my observations, the girl from the Greensboro Day School basketball program with the biggest upside, and that would be from watching the young players, the kid with the biggest upside for the future, would be freshman A’Shauna Robinson….She showed me a lot tonight and she will continue to improve…Wasn’t even sure what grade she was in, but from watching her movement on the court, this young Robinson kid can go, and I am predicting she will be going places…Just a freshman, here in 2020…

From the boys team, the current young player with the biggest upside would be Jackson Noble…A sophomore, Jackson is just getting warmed up in the post at GDS…I saw him back in the day, when Noble was with Travis Shaw, Tyler Albright, Jordan Wall and others at Kiser Middle…Noble will inherit the middle/post full time once Cason Pierce graduates and the ceiling is high for 6’7 Jackson Noble….Noble can go places and take the GDS Bengal places…

Those are a couple of my key kids now with GDS and the school and team are always building for the future…

No seniors from the girls team on Senior Night, and for the boys from GDS, they recognized Cam Hayes, Cason Pierce, Whit Trevey, Christian Bailey, Carson McCorkle and Rahul Patel from the Senior Class of 2020…

********************On that Parkland boys over Mount Tabor 84-82 game, Mount Tabor now 20-2/6-2)/Parkland(17-3/6-2) and Parkland has now defeated Mount Tabor twice this season…Next week, Smith High School is vs. Western Guilford on Tuesday, home vs. Mount Tabor on Wednesday and at WS Parkland on Friday….Smith sits at (16-5/5-2)…Smith, Parkland and Tabor, now all with two losses in the Piedmont Triad 3-A Conference….

So how they got the games switched around where Parkland was able to go to Mount Tabor tonight, who knows???….No school in Guilford County Schools meant NO games tonight, but in Forsyth County they have Open Enrollment and Open Games, No School, still no roadblocks….******************
