Elon Track & Field: Carlton Sets Personal-Best at Camel City Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshman Lauryn Carlton set a new personal-best mark in the weight throw as the Elon University women’s track and field team opened competition on the first day at the Camel City Invite on Friday, Feb. 7, at the JDL Fast Track Complex.

RESULTS

Carlton threw a distance of 53′ 5.75″ (16.30m) and beat her previous personal-record of 52′ 8.25″ that she set at the JDL College Kickoff on Jan. 19. She would finish ninth overall in the event. Teammate Skylar Barthelmes led the Phoenix in the weight throw with her toss of 57′ 6.50″ (17.54m) and was third overall.

In the long jump, Alex Tudor had a leap of 18′ 0.50″ to lead Elon in sixth place. Senior Melody Burke was seventh overall with her mark of 17′ 10.75″ (5.45m) while junior Alyssa Zee also finished in the top 10 with her jump of 17′ 2.75″ (5.25m).

Moira O’Malley was sixth overall in the women’s seeded high jump. The junior cleared the bar at a height of 5′ 5″ (1.65m) and was the top collegiate finisher in the event.

Day two of the Camel City Invitational begins tomorrow morning, Feb. 8, at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s shot put. The first track event begins with the women’s qualifying 60-meter dash at 10 a.m.
