Elon Women’s Tennis Splits Double-Header With Campbell and Methodist

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women’s tennis split its double-header on Saturday, Feb. 8, after falling to Campbell 5-2, and defeating Methodist, 6-0 respectively.

Following today’s matches, the Phoenix moved to 5-4 overall this season and 4-1 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

HIGHLIGHTS (CAMPBELL)
Victoria Saldh led the way for the Phoenix, outlasting Lea Cutura in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Saldh also combined with Sofia Edo to take down the Camels’ Lucile Pons and Inma Ramon, 7-6, en route to helping Elon secure the doubles point.

In doubles, Olivia Archer combined with Alex Koniaev to defeat Campbell’s Anna Castillo and Lea Cutura, 7-6. In singles play, Archer dropped a close one to Lou Regan, 7-5, 2-6, 6-7. Koniaev got off to a hot start in singles, but came up just short against Anna Castillo, 6-3, 1-6, 3-6.

HIGHLIGHTS (METHODIST)
The Phoenix dominated in singles play, with three players winning their respective matches in straight sets without allowing a single point. Sofia Edo bested Methodist’s Natalie Collins 6-0, 6-0 to give Elon an early lead in the match. Nicole Shiau and Shauna Galvin each swept their matches as well, defeating Luciana Forma and Hannah Higgins 6-0, 6-0 respectively.

Also in singles, Kiana Rizzolo defeated Casey Carroll 6-0, 6-1 to help secure Elon the victory. Due to expected inclement weather, Elon and Methodist did not participate in a double portion of the match.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15, to take on Longwood at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. That match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
