We were at Western Guilford HS for Senior Night tonight, and it wasn’t a pretty sight for the Black, Gold and White…
(It was all Black, Green and White tonight(SWG) at the Bill Hollifield Gymnasium and on the Mickie Tuttle Court.)
Girls Final:Southwest Guilford Cowgirls 73, Western Guilford 23
End of 1st Q:SWG 15, WG 11…Halftime:SWG 37, WG 18…End of 3rd Q:SWG 56, WG 22…Final:SWG 73, WG 23…
SWG won the second quarter, 22-7…From the end of the first quarter onward, the score was SWG 58, WG 12..SWG won the second half, 36-5…SWG won the 4th Quarter 17-1 with their reserves getting most of the minutes…

SWG scoring:Tir Nyock 15 points, Jocelyn Faust 14 points and all in the first half of the game, Grace Slade 11 points, Kendall Shaw 10 points, Simayah McCullough 6 points, Taylor, Patel and Paulino 3 points a-piece, Lauren Adoloye, Jaylin Slade, Grace Harriman and Aja Hairston 2 points each…
Western Guilford scoring:Ella Butler 9 points, Jemoni Carter 9 points, Oge Okeke and Orianna Mcintosh 2 points each, LA Oliver 1 point…

Boys Final:Southwest Guilford Cowboys 71, Western Guilford 29
End of 1s Q:SWG 21, WG 3…Halftime:SWG 40, WG 10…End of 3rd Q:SWG 58, WG 21…Final:SWG 71, WG 29…

SWG scoring: Jeremy Mull 20 points with four 3’s…Miles Taylor and Rodney Scott with 10 points each, DeAnthony Butchee 8 points, Claude Cormack 7 points, Aamaj Platt and Bryce Casusey 5 points, Eustand Zonen and Noah Goldston both with 3 points….

Western Guilford scoring: TJ Espinosa-Smith 15 points, Bryson Moore 8 points, Ethan Surgeon and Darrien Dalton 2 points a-piece, Keyun McCullough and Kavon Poindexter with 1 point each…

SWG assessed with three Technical Fouls in the game due to missed dunks and then hanging on the rim…Jeremy Mull and most of his SWG Cowboys teammates were deadly tonight from three-point range…

Coach Greg Vlazny had to keep challenging his Cowboys to play like they wanted to win and not play like they were wanting to show-out…The Cowboys did a fairly good job of staying focused, even though SWG was way out in front of WG almost this entire game….

WG was fortunate to get the three points that they did get in the First Quarter….Again all night long, Coach Vlazny kept reminding his SWG team, to “play like you want to win”….

WG got a very good effort from TJ Espinosa-Smith…Espinosa-Smith was only able to produce 4 first half points, but he followed that up with a very solid second half of scoring, by posting 11 second half points….Espinosa-Smith was the only WG Hornet that looked like he was comfortable hanging with the SWG Cowboys on the court tonight…

WG’s Zavier Neely never got going, as the WG big man got in foul trouble and spent most of his night on the WG bench as an observer only…Neely never cracked the scoring column in this game and the freshman still has much promise, he just needs to figure ways to stay in the games….

SWG still has NCHSAA playoff aspirations and this week might be the week where Southwest finds out just how far they might be able to go this season…SWG Cowboys now (11-11) overall and (4-4) in the Piedmont Triad 3-A Conference, with SWG hosting the Dudley Panthers tomorrow/Tuesday night, and then SWG will travel to face the Mount Tabor Spartans to close out their regular season on Friday night of this week…..
