College Baseball Doubleheader Results: Guilford 4-11, Brevard 3-12

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College and Brevard College split a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday. The Quakers won game one, 4-3, and the visitors took the nightcap, 12-11 in extra innings.

In the first game, the home club trailed 3-2 heading to its final at-bat in the seventh inning. Guilford, however, plated two runs to secure the win. Saunders Joplin singled home Brett Shapcott for the tying run. Larry McMillian II then scored the game-winning tally when he came home from third base after a wild pitch.

Reliever Ryan Hill (1-0) pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and earned the victory. He allowed no runs or hits and struck out five batters against zero walks. Kross Robinson (0-2) took the defeat for the Tornados. He tossed the entire 6 2/3 innings, allowed six hits and four runs.

Dylan Tuttle went 2-of-3 and scored once to lead Guilford hitters. Teammate Isaiah Hairston hit a triple and scored a run.

In the second game, Beau Shealy singled through the right side to score Jack Atkinson for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth of the scheduled seven-inning contest.

Brevard outhit GC 17-11 in the seesaw game. Guilford took an early 3-0 after two innings. BC rallied with 4 runs in the fourth and 5 more in the fifth to lead 9-6 heading to the bottom of the frame. The Quakers tallied the next five scores before the visitors responded with the game-tying run in the seventh.

Tuttle went 2-of-4 with a home run, a triple and two RBI for Guilford. Shapcott and Ellis Stokes each had two hits for the home team. Six Quakers took the mound with Tuttle (0-1) suffering the loss. He gave up two runs and four hits in the final three innings.

For the Tornados, reliever Samuel Goude earned the victory. He improved to 1-0 after allowing no runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. Leadoff hitter Jason Jucker went 4-for-6 at the plate. Shealy and
Christian Ezell each contributed three hits for the visitors. Brett Burchett had a home run and a single for BC.

The Quakers (2-1) and Tornados (1-4) conclude their three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is 1 p.m. at McBane Field.
