College Softball Finals: Guilford Sweeps Meredith 8-5 and 6-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Katie McNeill earned two victories in the pitching circle as Guilford College swept a doubleheader over visiting Meredith College on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 8-5 and 6-5.

Following the non-conference games, Guilford improved to 4-2. Meredith is 0-2 after its season-opening action.

McNeill tossed a complete game in the opener. She allowed five runs, seven hits and struck out six Avenging Angels while surrendering no walks.

Guilford started hot at the plate and tallied six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Casey Bunting (2-for-3, double, HR) knocked a three-run home run to highlight the first-inning scoring.

For Meredith, Kelsey Mabe went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Sarah Gundlach (0-1) took the loss after starting and only getting two outs in the first frame.

In the nightcap, The Quakers broke a 5-5 tie with one run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the sweep. Natalie Conrad singled home Lauren Bowman for the winning score.

Kylie Richardson had a double and two RBI for the home team. McNeill improved to 3-1 on the year after hurling the final out and getting the win. She followed Sydnee Hilliard (5 1/3 innings) and Aibigayle Rowell (1 1/3 innings).

Susanne Taylor led the Avenging Angels on offense. She hit 3-for-4 and smacked two doubles in the contest. Myah Morse (0-1) took the loss after tossing 6 1/3 innings. She gave up six runs (three earned) and five hits. Morse struck out five Quakers but gave up 10 bases on balls.

The Quakers play at Salem College on Wednesday (2/19). The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
