Elon Women’s Track & Field Phoenix Distance Squad Posts Strong Showing in Boston

BOSTON – Members of the distance contingent for the Elon University women’s track and field team had three event qualifiers for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted at Boston University on Friday, Feb. 14.

RESULTS

Hannah Preeo qualified to the ECAC Indoor Championships after the sophomore ran a time of 9:52.25 in the unseeded 3,000-meters. She would finish 10th overall in the race and posted the fifth-fastest time in school history. Scolasticah Kemei just missed on qualifying outright for the ECACs in the 3,000-meters as she ran a time of 9:55.28.

Melissa Anastasakis qualified for the ECACs in her second event this indoor season as the Hillsdale, Ontario, native ran a time of 4:48.38 in the one-mile run. Leandra Lorenz also competed for Elon in the one-mile and had a time of 5:09.05.

Maria Ahm ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 5,000-meters, clocking a time of 16:47.44 in the race and was 21st overall. She qualifies for the ECACs in her second event of the season.

Gabriela Varisco de Oliveira led Elon in the 800-meters with a time of 2:14.80, a new personal-best for the Porto Alegre, Brazil, native. She also clocked a time of 1:20.72 in the 500-meter dash. Anna Twomey represented the Phoenix in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.57, breaking into the program’s top-five all-time.

The Phoenix concludes its three-meet split weekend with the rest of the team competing at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty University tomorrow, Feb. 15.
