College Women’s Basketball Final: Emory & Henry 50, Guilford 45

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sydney McKinney scored a team-high 14 points as Emory & Henry defeated Guilford College, 50-45, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night. McKinney was 5-of-10 shooting and converted 3-of-4 free throws.

The Wasps improved to 20-4 and 14-3 in league action. The Quakers dropped to 13-9 and 9-8 in the ODAC.

The evenly played match featured 14 lead changes, six ties and saw no team lead by more than six points. The Quakers held an early lead and were ahead 17-15 after the first quarter. EHC took its first lead at 24-22 after Josie Salyer made a three-pointer with 2:57 remaining in the second period. The score remained the same at the break.

The visitors led 37-36 heading to the final stanza. The Quakers tied the game three times in the final quarter, but never regained the lead. Senior Miracle Walters layup with 1:02 left cut the lead to 48-45, but Guilford got no closer.

Walters paced the home team with 14 points. She added seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Lindsay Gauldin contributed 10 points and five boards. Freshman Carisma Lynn grabbed a game-high (and personal-best) 13 rebounds. E&H’s Elizabeth Jones also had 13 rebounds in the game.

Emory & Henry made 16-54 (30-percent) from the field. Guilford shot 31-percent (18-45) in the contest. EHC led in rebounds (47-35) and three-point baskets (5-4). Guilford committed 12 turnovers and forced 15 Wasp miscues.

The Quakers host ODAC rival Randolph College on Saturday. The Quaker regular-season finale–which is also Senior Day–tips off at 4:30 p.m.
