CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 10th-ranked NC State women’s basketball team (23-3, 12-3 ACC) overcame a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to pick up a 50-48 road win against the Miami Hurricanes (13-13, 5-10 ACC) on Thursday evening.

The victory was the Wolfpack’s first in Coral Gables since 2007 and snapped the team’s recent two-game skid. It also secured NC State’s 12th conference win of the season, marking the third time in four years that the Pack has reached 12 league wins in a single season.

After trailing by seven (32-39) headed into the fourth quarter, NC State outscored Miami 18-9 in the final period. The Pack’s come-from-behind win was aided by 10 unanswered points scored by the team from 5:04 to 1:23 in the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes missed 13-straight attempts from the floor from the 2:37 mark of the third period to the 1:24 mark of the fourth period.

NC State’s run built its lead up to five points (46-41), but a three-pointer by Miami’s Kelsey Marshall tied the game at 48 with 22 seconds remaining. The Wolfpack inbounded the ball, took it the length of the floor and Jakia Brown-Turner knocked down a jumper from the corner with two seconds remaining to give NC State its final lead of the game at 50-48.

Brown-Turner led the Wolfpack in scoring, as she tied her career high of 18 points. The freshman shot 7-of-11 from the floor, including a 4-of-6 clip from long range. Elissa Cunane joined her in double figures with 15 points.

Both teams shot under 35 percent on the night, but the Pack’s defense buckled down to hold Miami to 29.1 percent from the floor and just 2-of-11 shooting in the fourth quarter. NC State owned a 13-0 advantage in second-chance points and outscored Miami 22-12 in the paint.

The teams went into the halftime break knotted up at 22-22, marking the first time this season that NC State has looked at a tied score through 20 minutes of action. Both squads shot under 27 percent from the floor in the first quarter but heated up early from long range with three treys apiece in the opening period. A back-and-forth second quarter featured three lead changes. The Wolfpack held the Canes to just 1-of-6 in the final 5:24 of the period, but that one basket was good enough to knot the score just before halftime.

Miami went on an 11-0 run that spanned nearly five minutes in the third quarter to build up a lead of as many as eight points (39-31) in the second half. The Canes took their seven-point advantage into the final quarter before the Pack mounted its comeback.

Destiny Harden (15 points) and Mykea Gray (11 points) scored in double figures to lead the Hurricanes.

The Wolfpack will return home on Monday, Feb. 24 to host Duke for its 15th Annual Play4Kay game. Tip-off from Reynolds Coliseum is set for 7 p.m., and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2 as part of Big Monday. Limited tickets remain for the game.
