College Baseball Final: Guilford 8, PSU Abington 6

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ryan Hill earned the win in relief and Anthony Cuozzi haD three hits as Guilford College defeated Penn State Abington, 8-6, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers improved to 5-4 after the win. The Nittany Lions fell to 2-3 after the loss.

Guilford trailed 5-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning but plated five runs en route to the victory. Cuozzi, who recorded his second straight three-hit game, blasted a double to score Austin Bailey for GC’s final run of the frame.

The Quakers chased starter Jaden Himmelrichs in the seventh. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned). Reliever Brandon Hightower, however, was tagged with the loss. He dropped to 1-1- after surrendering three runs while recording no outs.

Hill (2-0) replaced starter Ty Walser for the Quakers in the sixth inning. Hill allowed four earned runs and eight hits. The Lions scored one run in the bottom of the ninth. With runners on second and third base, Hill got Bill Trimble to fly out to centerfield to end the contest.

PSUA out hit Guilford, 12-11. Zach Morales went 3-of-4, scored twice and had two RBI to lead the visitors. Stevie Stevenson and Demetrius Deramus both had two hits for the Nittany Lions. Stevenson also stole two bases in the game.

For Guilford, Logan King and Tanner Hobbs both collected two hits and scored twice.

The Quakers seek a sweep of the three-game series versus PSU Abington on Sunday. Game time is 12 p.m.
