College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 66, Roanoke 61 (ODAC Semifinal)

SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Lindsay Gauldin’s game-high 18 points helped Guilford to a 66-61 victory over Roanoke College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament semifinal action Saturday afternoon.

In a game that was highly contested throughout, Roanoke jumped out to an 8 point lead, its biggest advantage of the game, with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, Guilford battled back with a 10-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from Kristen Roberts to tie the contest at 17-17.

The Quakers managed to hold the Maroons to only five points in a low scoring second quarter to take a slight 26-22 advantage at the half.

Both teams continued to fight in the third frame, which saw 10 lead changes and four ties. The fourth quarter was much of the same with the contest coming down to the wire.

In the last two minutes of regulation, there were two ties and four lead changes before Guilford took the advantage for good on a Miracle Walters layup and free throw with 32 seconds left on the clock. The Quakers finished out the game on a 6-0 run to secure the 66-61 victory and advance to their ninth ODAC Tournament Championship game in program history.

Joining Gauldin in double-digit scoring for the Quakers were Walters and Calyn Davis with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Davis also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Guilford held Roanoke to 16.7 percent shooting from beyond the arch, which was the Maroons fifth-lowest three-point percentage of the season.

For the Maroons, Kristina Harrel led the way with 15 points while Morgan Micallef and Renee Alquiza were close behind with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Harrel, Micallef, and Alquiza all recorded a team-leading six board apiece.

Coach Stephanie Flamini’s Quakers will face Randolph-Macon College tomorrow (3/1) at 1 p.m. in the ODAC Tournament Championship.
