MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Hai Siu became just the second Greensboro
College wrestler in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championship
Tournament Saturday.

Siu punched is ticket with an exciting semifinal bout against Averett
University’s Brandon Woody, who entered the regional tournament ranked
ninth in the 141-lb class according to D3wrestle.com.

After neither wrestler scored a point in the first period, Woody chose
to take the bottom in the second period and quickly earned a one-point
escape to a narrow 1-0 lead. The score then remained the same until Siu
returned the favor in the third to set up the overtime period.

Early in the overtime, Woody took a shot out Siu’s outside leg, but Siu
was able to maintain his footing and sweep the leg of his opponent to
record the two-point takedown and secure the victory and advance to the
title bout.

In the title bout, Siu was matched up against top-ranked Troy Stanich of
Stevens. Early in the opening period, Stanich tallied a two-point
takedown but Siu was able to pull within one with a one-point escape
midway through the period.

However, Siu could not overcome Stanich as he fell via fall just before
the period ended to finish the Southeast Regional Tournament in second
place.

Siu will now travel to the NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on
March 13. For more information on Greensboro College wrestling, continue
