Elon Softball’s Grant Named CAA Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – First-year Megan Grant of the Elon University softball team was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 3.

Grant led the Phoenix with a .429 batting average in the Phoenix’s five games last week going 6-of-14. She also had a .643 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage. The Vinton, Va., native helped the Phoenix to a 2-1 win at North Carolina last Wednesday, Feb. 26, going 2-of-3 with a double and a RBI for Elon’s third straight victory over the Tar Heels. She also had another multi-hit effort in Elon’s 6-4 win over Fairfield, going 2-of-4 and added a triple while scoring a run in the Phoenix’s 6-4 come-from-behind win over Yale at the Liberty Softball Classic.

The weekly honor is Grant’s first of her career and the second for Elon overall this season. Senior Kenna Quinn claimed the league’s Pitcher of the Week accolade earlier this year on Feb. 11.

The Phoenix is back in action this weekend, March 7-8, facing UNCG in a three-game series. Elon hosts the Spartans in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 7, with the opening pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
