College Baseball Final: Guilford 7, William Peace 1

CARY, N.C. – Isaiah Hairston had four hits and Drew Sawyer earned the win as Guilford College defeated William Peace University, 7-1, on Wednesday night at the USA Baseball Complex.

After the non-conference game, the Quakers improved to 6-5. The Pacers dropped to 9-4 on the season.

The Quakers took the lead in the opening inning and never looked back. Logan King singled in Hairston for the game’s first score. The visitors added a single run in the fourth frame before plating two scores in the fifth and sixth innings.

Trailing 6-0, the Pacers scored its lone tally in the seventh. Nick Montrose had a pinch-hit single to bring home Logan Barbour for WPU.

The Quakers outhit the Pacers, 17-5. Hairston, a freshman, hit 4-for-4, scored three times, homered, doubled had three RBI. His two-run home run scored Dylan Tuttle in the fifth inning. He doubled
to bring in Tuttle in the eighth for GC’s final run. Austin Bailey was 3-of-5 with a double. King, Ryan Hill, Giovanni Garcia and Anthony Cuozzi all had two hits in the contest.

Designated starter Drew Sawyer (1-1) earned the win for Guilford. He tossed the first two innings and gave up one hit. Relievers Josh Sadler, Ty Clark, Max Lattomus and Joey Hegeman had solid outings on the mound for the visitors.

Eight hurlers took the hill for William Peace. Starter John Speight (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He threw three innings, gave up one run and five hits. Barbour had two hits to pace the WPU offense.

The Quakers open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m. The Yellow Jackets are ranked seventh in the D3baseball.com national poll.
