Early Offensive Attack & Strong Pitching Leads Pride To 11-3 Victory Over Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Scotty McGuire hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning as the Greensboro College baseball team defeated the Falcons of Pfeiffer University Saturday 11-3.

Greensboro jumped on top in the first inning before extending their lead to 7-0 with three runs in the second and fourth innings. Chance Bryant tallied a two RBI single through the right side in the second inning before Devin Brackin highlighted the fourth inning with a two RBI single of his own.

With the Pride holding on to the seven-run advantage, Pfeiffer got on the board with one run in the fifth inning before McGuire hit his homerun to make the score 9-1.

In the seventh inning, both teams scored two runs, but it was the Pride who was able to maintain the large lead and went on to secure the eight-run victory.

Michael Garvey Jr. had two hits on the day while six other players had one hit each. Jared Cenal struck out six batters over 6.1 innings pitched to pick up the win, while Chenzo Scanio pitched the final 2.2 innings.

Softball Splits With Nationally Ranked Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Greensboro College split with the 16th-ranked Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon College Saturday.

The Pride took the opening game by a 4-0 score before suffering an 11-3 loss in Game 2.

In the top of the second inning in Game 1, Jordan Deaton gave the Pride a 1-0 lead when she hit the ball over the center-field fence for her first homerun of the season. After Cheyanne Cox retired the Yellow Jackets in the bottom half, Greensboro added on to their lead in the third inning on a two-run homerun by Kiersten Doss.

With Greensboro holding on to the three-run lead, Caroline Stanley singled up the middle in the fourth inning to score Macey Brewer for the game’s final run.

Deaton finished the game with a team-leading two hits, while Stanley, Doss, Courtney Fink, Alexis Sox, and Kassie Simmons each had one hit. Cox earned the victory in the pitching circle to move to 5-1 on the season.

In the second game, Randolph Macon took a one-run lead in the first inning before Greensboro struck for two runs in the top half of the third to take a one-run lead of their own. Simmons got the Pride on the board with a double to right field before coming in to score on a single to left center field.

However, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Pride 10-1 over the final 2 ½ innings to take the victory.

Simmons was credited with the loss in the pitching circle. Stanley and Sox both finished the game with a team-leading two hits.

The Pride will return to action Sunday when they travel to Virginia Beach, Va. to take part in the Virginia Wesleyan Classic. Greensboro will take on Bethany College at 10:30 a.m. before squaring off with the host Marlins at 12:30 p.m.

Pride Men Overcome Slow Start To Race Past Randolph 16-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team overcame a slow start to defeat the Wildcats of Randolph College Saturday 16-5.

Randolph held a 2-1 lead heading into the second period before Davis Miller scored his 12th goal of the season to tie the game with 12:23 showing on the clock. The Wildcats then regained a one-goal lead two minutes later, but the Pride scored the final five goals of the period to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Spencer Kontoulas accounted for two of the goals, while Abourjilie and William Beyer both had one goal.

Following the break, Greensboro outscored the Wildcats 6-0 in the third period, behind two goals each by Kontoulas and Davis Miller, to take a 13-3 lead into the final 15 minutes. During that span, Abourjilie struck for two more goals, while Gage Pearman also scored to secure the 11-goal victory.

Beyer finished with two goals and five assists on the day while Abourjilie had five goals and four assists. Christopher Stallings had 10 saves in just over 41 minutes of action to secure the victory in goal. Kyle Ishler, Kamden Williams, and Tim Martin combined to play the final 19 minutes in goal.
