Elon Women’s Track: Zee Sets School Record on Opening Day at ECAC Indoor Championships

BOSTON – Junior Alyssa Zee set a new school-record in the 60-meters as the Elon University women’s track and field team competed on its opening day at the 2020 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships held at the Boston University Tennis and Track Center.

RESULTS

Zee clocked a personal-best time of 7.74 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, breaking her previous school mark of 7.75 she shared with Sydney Griffin ’16. Zee reached the semifinals of the race where she would also clock a time of 7.74, but fell short of qualifying for the next round.

In the 5,000-meters, Maria Ahm finished second overall in the 5,000-meters with her time of 16:49.44. Melissa Anastasakis was third in the prelims of the one-mile run, racing a time of 4:52.63. She advances to the final round tomorrow.

Skylar Barthelmes finished ninth overall in the weight throw to lead the Phoenix. The Dartmouth, Mass., native threw a mark of 17.70m to nearly match her personal and school-record. Junior Charlotte Bradsher did set a new personal-best mark in the event with her heave of 17.12m and was 14th overall.

Zee and Jordan Haywood competed in the 200-meters for the Phoenix. Haywood ran a personal-record time of 24.72 in the prelims of the race while Zee also established a new personal-best with her time of 24.78. Both would finish just outside of qualifying for the next round. Aliya Barrows race a time of 57.08 in the prelims of the 400-meters and finished four spots from qualifying for the next round at 16th.

Elon’s 4×800-meter relay team of Stephanie Lair, Anna Twomey, Ashley Irby and Emily Smith qualified for the next round after racing a time of 9:05.31 in the preliminaries. That time is the second-best in school history.

On Deck
Elon returns to action tomorrow, March 8, to conclude the 2020 ECAC Indoor Championships. The first Elon event, the finals of the one-mile run, is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.
