WALLACE, N.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team placed sixth at the River Landing Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington on Monday (March 10) afternoon. Sophomore Sarah Kahn led the Panthers with a sixth-place finish.
“Things didn’t go our way on the leaderboard today, to say the least,” said head coach Alexis Bennett. “But we’ll take a few days rest over break and do a hard reset as we head into championship season. I still have a lot of confidence in my team and the direction we are trending. I feel we’re very close to putting together a complete set of rounds we can be proud of.”
Kahn headed into the day tied at the top of the leaderboard after a stellar first day at one-under (143) after 36 holes. After teeing off on hole one, she had two bogies on the front nine to card a two-over 38 at the turn. A birdie on 13 brought her back to one-over and within a stroke of the lead, however, a bogey on 16 and a double on 17 pushed her four strokes off the lead for an overall score of 219.
Senior Tonrak Tasaso shot a team-best 73 on the day and moved up four spots up the leaderboard to finish T19. Sophomore Olivia John also worked her way up the board after a third-round 74 to finish T24 after a combined score of 226.
High Point will head to Asheville, N.C. next for the French Broad Collegiate at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove Sunday, March 29 – Tuesday, March 31.
