Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Ragsdale Boys Basketball:Butchee with 30/10 and Carmack 20/8, setting tone for the winning SWG team

Final:Southwest Guilford boys 69, Ragsdale 63

The Cowboys hit the road to square off against rival Ragsdale.

Ragsdale won a tight ball game in their season opener against West Forsyth on Tuesday night. In similar fashion, The Cowboys won in dramatic fashion last night in their opener against High Point Central.

Both teams came out and played hard on both sides of the ball. The teams traded baskets for a mostly even frame. The visiting Cowboys managed a couple more productive possessions which helped them to a 17-14 lead at the close of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw both teams really battle evenly and both teams started to experience foul trouble. The frame ultimately was a wash as the margin remained the same and the halftime tally was 33-30 in favor of the visitors.

The third quarter has historically been good for the Cowboys in the last several years. Fortunately for Southwest that trend continued tonight. Southwest played solid team defense and started to force tempo and turnovers and most importantly, turned those into points. The Tigers however did a great job closing out the frame strong and kept the Cowboys from pulling it away. The frame ended with Southwest up 53-43.

The battle continued on into the final frame as the Tigers did everything they could to try and claw back into the contest. With a few key Southwest players fouling out down the stretch, the hosts were able to cut the margin into single digits. Bleak free-throw shooting for both teams kept things interesting.

In the end though, these Cowboys made enough plays and got enough key rebounds and tremendous contributions from the team that the visiting Cowboys prevailed for the 69-63 road win.

The Tigers were led by Jah Siago with 17 points. The Cowboys were paced by DeAnthony Butchee with (30 pts, 10 Rebs, and 4 Stls), Claude Cormack (20 pts, 8 Rebs). It was a great total team effort for the Cowboys who played a solid team game all night as they improve to 2-0 on the young season.
