  1. Very strange schedule, much different than what we’re used to, starting with 120 games instead of 140. Every series will consist of 6 games, running Tuesday through Sunday, with every Monday an off day. Hoppers play four series against W-S Dash (24 games total), 24 against Hickory, 12 each against Asheville, Rome, Greenville, Bowling Green and Hudson Valley, and 6 against Jersey Shore (formerly called Lakewood). I don’t know — 6 straight games against the same team could get boring.

  2. And playing games until Mid-September in the regular season, due to the later start coming in May, instead of April…

I remember five-game series in the Southern League with the Double-A Carolina Mudcats back in the day, but don’t remember seeing too many six-game series ever…They used to run the longer five-game series to help with travel costs, when gas prices were jumping sky high….

Sort of an interesting trade-off with the teams we now have, including Winston-Salem, and the teams we lost from the old South Atlantic League….

Going to be interesting to see if Jersey Shore will bring out Snookie to the ballpark, and then if they do, Spaz(Greensboro Grasshoppers) and Snookie, a childhood friend of his family, could be re-united on a baseball diamond….

Spoke with die-hard Greensboro(Grasshoppers/etc.) baseball fan today, Robert Stutts, and he said he was hoping that Myrtle Beach would be with us in this new league, but it did not turn out that way…Lost out on the Carolina Mudcats, and Lynchburg Hillcats too…Lynchburg had been in the Carolina League and at the High Class A level, for what seems like a lifetime….

I remember watching games with the old Lynchburg Mets back in the mid-to-late 70’s when Lynchburg had Jeff Reardon, Ron Gardenhire, Brian Giles, Ronald McDonald, Paco Perez, Jody Davis and others..

    Lynchburg in the Carolina League:(1966–2020)…

Baseball is full of history, both old and new…
