Bengals Out Fox Panthers to Claim Boys Crown/Valentine’s Day Comes Early for Dudley Girls
Greensboro Day School ran past Dudley 70-54 to take the boy’s Pizza Hut Little Four championship, while the Dudley girls won their first ever title with a 72-50 victory over Northwest Guilford. Travis Leonard and Brandon Davis had 19 points each to lead the Bengals in scoring and Alan Fox of GDS was named tourney MVP. The Day School received solid support on the inside from the tandem of Johnny Thomas and Josh Lanham and with their all around consistant play and the expertise of veteran coach Freddy Johnson the Bengals were able to take Dudley out of their element, which is a suffocating defense and the big bodies dominating the Panther’s opponets.
Mekia Valentine may have been the single most dominant force in the tournament as she was the girls MVP and she controlled the middle like no young lady has done in recent memory. Valentine was the force and with her 22 points, numerous rebounds, and shot-altering defense she had Northwest shaking in ther shoes when they came in the lane and went up against the 6’5 Valentine’s Day Massacre. Doug Cockman, our Greensboro Sports associate said he could see the fear in the eyes of the Northwest girls when they tried to go up against Valentine. Valentine’s teammate 6’4 Sierra Little was also a difference in the middle and the Panther’s Nikki Kee was red-hot with her outside shot.
