The Greensboro Batting Center defeated Rockingham County Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium 9-0 and now Alan Ashkinazy’s squad will move on to play for the Colt World Series this week at Lafayette, Indiana.
The Batting Center which is the equivalent to the Greesnboro Green team was paced by Austin Moyer at the plate with his huge homerun and by Clint Moore who had 3 RBI’s for the GBC. Moyer is out of Southeast Guilford High School and Clint Moore is from Grimsley. Michael Dimock was a rock on the hill striking out five and combining with two other pitchers for a shutout.
The Batting Center was 3-0 in the East Zone Tournament and scored 4 runs in the 4th inning on Saturday behind the hitting of Alan Craven to claim the crown.
The last and only Greensboro team to win the Colt World Series was the 1965 club led by Barry Councilman, Ronnie Collins, and Ronnie Rudd. Collins and Rudd are considered to be the best youth baseball players to ever come out of Guilford County. Good Luck to Alan and his Greensboro Batting Center team as they head out to Lafayette, Indiana.
