Patriots Still Need One Win

The Guilford Patriots lost their first game of the Palomino East Zone Tournament Monday night up in Pitttsburg, PA to Dix Hill out of Queens, New York. The Patriots were down 8-1 but battled back before falling 8-5 and setting up a must win game Tuesday morning at 10am versus the same Dix Hill team out of NY. Nick Rogers from Northwest Guilford will get the call as the starting pitcher on Tuesday morning.

Jody Calloway took the loss for the Patriots on Monday night and John Neese was the only hot hitter for the Pats going 2-3 with a double and a triple. Dix Hill defeated North Alleghany 4-3 to make it to the finals, just as Justin Smith had predicted and we thank Justin for his reports from up in Pittsburg during the tournament.

We also take time to thank Jim Modlin for his fine report on the USA-Japan baseball game played last Friday night at First Horizon Park. I was at the Grimsley Whirlies first football practice of 2006 on Monday afternoon and will have details for you on Tuesday along with the Patriots report.
