The High School Football Polls Are In

This is what it looks like for this week as the old coach Dennis Bass used to say right before he sat down for his next meal, which was followed shortly by his next meal, and then there were the snacks, and I guess you have to eat many times a day if you are wearing a pair of fast walking shoes. We will be wearing our fast walking shoes at Grimsley this week as the Whirlies play host to the High Point Central Black Bison. Jim Modlin, Paul Lambeth, Jimmy Fulmer and the entire crew will be on hand to bring the games to you and the surrounding pockets of Guilford County.(Air time Friday at 7pm on AM 950 WPET)

LUCKY 13

#1) Grimsley(The Whirlies got a scare getting down 12-0 to North Forsyth before rallying the troops and stopping the Vikings 42-12 behind 3 TD runs and 189 yards rushing on 7 carries by QB Josh Stewart, and his backup at QB Zach Maynard ran for 2 TD’s. Grimsly 7-0/2-0 will host High Point Central
4-3/3-0 at Jamieson Stadium on Friday night)

#2) Eastern Randolph(The Wildcats at 7-0 were off last week and now will travel to take on unbeaten Asheboro 7-0 on Friday. This should determine the Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference championship)

#3) Thomasville(The Bulldogs destroyed West Montgomery 51-0 behind Quan Warley’s 222 yards and 3 TD’s on the ground. The 7-0/2-0 ‘Dogs invite the
7-0/2-0 Jordan Matthews Jets to Cushwa Stadium in T’ville Friday for the Yadkin Valley 1-A title game. This will be the first time the ‘Dogs have been tested this season. The Jets are for real and rumor has it that Joe Willie Namath has guaranteed a Jets victory again. Joe Willie is Mike “the Jet” Easley’s second cousin on his sister’s side)

#4) Dudley(The Panthers had no problem with the Morehead Panthers last week winning 40-6 at Tarpley Stadium and now sit 3-0/7-1 and wait to take on on the Northeast Guilford Rams next week{Oct. 20th} at Bill Bookout Stadium in McLeansville)

#5) Reidsville(After being up only 14-7 at halftime the Rams cane back and busted West Stokes 42-14 with Tayon Graves rushing for 232 yards on 18 carries and he scored 3 touchdowns. The Rams are 6-1 overall and travel to take on 3-4 Eastern Guilford in a North State 2-A matchup Friday)

#6) Burlington Cummings(The Cavaliers squeezed Orange hard last week bringing home the juice by the tune of 62-6. The seeds were flying fast and now the 6-1 Cavs host 4-3 Northwood this Friday with scouts from the Tangerine Bowl expected to be in attendance)

#7) Asheboro(The Blue Comets did what they had to do taking care of Southeast Guilford 7-0 at SEG. Up next the area’s most improved team at 7-0/2-0 gets the chance to show how good they really are when Eastern Randolph comes to the Stadium near the Zoo off Highway 64 on Friday. It would be the biggest win in years if first-year coach Sam Whitley’s Comets could whip Burton Cates Wildcats)

#8) Western Alamance(The Warriors got the job done by knocking off Northeast Guilford 35-28 in a make-up game that was played on Monday night. WA is now 7-1/3-0 and are in a 1st place tie with Dudley in the Triad 3-A. There will be no problem when WA travels to Bartlett Yancey on Friday)

#9) Northeast Guilford(The Rams dropped that game to WA on Monday, a game that should have been played like the rest of them on Friday. NEG is now 5-2 and 1-1 conference and they hit the road to take on Morehead this week. NEG has their top two QB’s injured and I hope they can get everybody healthy in time for the Dudley game, but they still can’t overlook Morehead)

#10) High Point Andrews(The Raiders got off to a good conference start beating Glenn 27-25 last Thursday and at 1-0/5-2 they look to be ready to give somebody a hard time. This week the Raiders will have a picnic hosting
0-6 Reagan. I’m glad Ronald has moved on and doesn’t have to watch or read about this team that was named after him. They should have named that school Taylor Johnson HS)

#11) Southeast Guilford(The Falcons lost the Big One to Asheboro and now must re-group over at 0-7 Southwestern Randolph this week)

#12) High Point Central(The Bison have been moving and they are unbeaten in the Metro 4-A after last week’s 31-7 victory over East Forsyth. The teams{EF,NWG,Smith} that 3-0 HPC has beaten in the Metro are a combined 1-7 in conference play. This week HPC plays #1 Grimsley)

#13) Glenn(Time is running out on the 4-3 Bobcats and they have to recover quickly because this week they go over to take on 6-1 Carver)

GUILFORD GREAT EIGHT
#1 GRIMSLEY
#2 DUDLEY
#3 NEG
#4 HP ANDREWS
#5 SEG
#6 HP CENTRAL
#7 SWG
#8 RAGSDALE
others not receiving votes this week(Page, NWG, EG, WG, Smith, SG)

  1. It is an absolute travesty that Page is so bad. I’m an old man that played during the glory days – ’82,’83 and ’84. What has happened? I’m no longer local. Dave Williams.

  2. I would vote for Bill Wright before I would vote Tville in my top 10 they do not play anybody they use to play Reidsville but Tville backed out, Allen Brown used to play anybody.

  3. Page defeated North Forsyth 14-7 Friday night and they have HP Central this Thursday and this game will be for second place in the Metro 4-A and that’s about all Page can hope for right now. Grimsley 8-0 and Dudley 7-1 and the top teams in Guilford County these days.
