Hoppers take two from Captains

The Greensboro Grasshoppers took two games from the Lake County Captains on Thursday at First Horizon Park.  The Hoppers won game one 4-3 and kept the excitement going with a 6-5 victory in game number two.

The Grasshoppers are off to 5-2 start and begin a four game home-stand against the Hagerstown Suns on Friday evening, game time 7pm at FHP.  The Hoppers had a nice 4-2 lead going in game one on the strength of Spike McDougall’s two-run homer and then had to hang on to win it with some solid relief pitching from the pen.  Brad Stone got the win and Blake Jones the save and starter Matthew Goyen threw stong after giving up two runs in the first.

The Grasshoppers were down 3-1 in game two but battled back to tie it at 3-3, then fell behind 5-3 before evening the score at 5-5 with back-to-back homers by Chris Hatcher and Carlos Piste in the bottom of the 7th.  The Hoppers won when John Raynor executed the suicide squeeze bunt to bring home Piste from third to make the final score 6-5 for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the 8th inning.
