Three or more Impact players on Championship teams

Interesting topic that can go in many different directions. This was discussed recently on some major sports talk radio shows and it got me to thinking and it kept me thinking long after those shows were gone.

Three or more impact players on Championship teams in the pros and in college.

How about the LA Lakers with Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and James Worthy…..
Let’s take a look at the Big Red Machine with Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, and Joe Morgan….
What about the Pittsburg Steelers with Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, and John Stallworth….

The Dallas Cowboys with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin…. Who can forget the Duke Blue Devils with Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, and Grant Hill….

Or what about the North Carolina Tar Heels with
Worthy, Michael Jordan, and Sam Perkins….
Hey and maybe one more with the Boston Celtics featuring
Bird, McHale, and Parrish…..

Let’s add to the list this week with Three or more impact players on Championship teams from college or pro….

  1. What about the LA Dodgers with Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell, and Ron Cey? Tommy Lasorda was their manager and they were one heck of a team.

  2. The Oakland A’s under the leadership of Dick Williams had Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Vida Blue, Gene Tenace, Rollie Fingers, Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, and Bert Campaneris.

  3. The Bucks had three great ones in Lew Alcindor, Oscar Robertson, and Bobby Dandridge. I remember an early Lakers team that had Wilt Chamberlin, Jerry West, Gail Goodridge, and Happy Hairston. The NY Knicks really had it with Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Willis Reed, Earl Monroe, Bill Bradley, and Dave DeBusshure

  4. The Chicago Bulls had Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen, Horace Grant, and BJ Armstrong. Jordan and Pippen were great but Grant and Armstrong made a big impact.
