U19 Gaters are Your National Champions

UNCG recruit Landon Clement scored eight points and hit two key 3-pointers in the third quarter, when the N.C. Gaters broke a 30-30 halftime tie and went on a run to beat Morris City (N.J.) in the finals of the AAU 19-and-under boys basketball national championships Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.

The Greensboro-based team went 7-0. It’s the Gaters’ third U19 national title in seven years (2002, ’05, ’07). The team is coached by Page High School graduate Vic Sapp.

@@@@@I saw Josh Chavis of the Dudley Panthers down at the Greensboro Parks and Recreation office on Yanceyville Street around noon today. Josh was on the Gaters National Championship team and he dished out nine big assists in the title game. Josh is a great kid and he is headed to USC-Upstate along with Mezie Uzochukwu in the fall.
