High School Football Roundup:This thing is getting Crazy

4-4 on my Picks, This thing is getting Crazy. Going half and half on High School picks is getting crazy but we had a one-point game in OT and a two-point decision and another game we hit on that was decided by just one point.

Grimsley got the job done at Dudley to run their regular-season winning streak to 22 games. Zach Maynard teamed up with his brother Keenan Allen for one TD and tossed another to Kelsey Stevens(or was it Jack Shultz, I heard two different versions) and then Maynard took one in on his own with a QB keeper for a score. The Whirlies take it and Dudley has no offense and the Dudley “D” can’t stop Grimsley. A big 21-0 Whirlie victory. Grimsley has High Point Andrews up next in the Whirlie’s home-opener Friday. It appears to me that the return of Keenan Allen has made a huge impact, Maynard is the MAN at QB, and the loss of David Moore didn’t hurt Grimsley.

Ragsdale losing to Northwest was a shocker after the way the Tigers had started the season. Northwest picked up their first win and Ragsdale falls to 2-1 with Page up next in Jamestown.(NWG takes it 14-0)

Former Ragsdale and Southeast Guillford assitant football coach, Ronnie Smith died on Friday. Smith was 52, he had just retired after the last school-year, and was in the High Point Regional Hospital Cancer Unit when he passed away. Smith was Tommy Norwood’s right-hand-man in football at Ragsdale and SEG and he was an excellent Track coach at both schools. From what we hear Smith was a stand-out Baseball player back in his high school days at Ragsdale. He was a good man and he will be missed by many people throughout the community.

Northeast Guilford proved why they are the team to beat in the 3-A ranks when they demolished Eastern Guilford 42-9 up in McLeansville Friday night. Little Tyler Woods was the workhorse and Paul Lambeth will have the full re-cap coming up later today on our #1 team, NEG.

Southeast Guilford got into the win column with their 20-13 victory over Southwest. SEG’s Justin Venable ran for 2 TD’s and he picked off a pass. The Falcon backs carried the ball 51 times for 262 yards. SEG at Southern next Friday.

Page survived 27-26 at Southern Lee and we didn’t hear much about QB Will Newman, but DJ McNeil carried the load on the road for the Pirates. Trinity tripped up Southern Guilford 27-25 and our man William Graves did not score and we don’t know how many yards William gained on the ground. High Point Central battled back to score 10 points in the 4th quarter to tie Eastern Randolph but then they lost the game in OT 18-17. Western Guilford did what said they would do, they defeated Smith, 17-6, to go 3-0, and now head down to EG this week with a chance to go 4-0 to begin 2007.

It was a Crazy week but this thing is just getting started.

  1. Andy, Justin Venable had 2 picks last night #25 Terrance (CB)? had one and BJ Adellete (LB) had one. All in all SEG played a decent game, still not impressed with the O but the D is tough. SWG is a good team that likes to spread out the field. Their JV QB played the second half, he’s gonna be one to watch in the future.

  2. That #25 is Terrance Topps. He’s a great addition to the special teams. He’s 3 for 3 on FGs and would have taken last weeks game into overtime if it wasn’t for a missed block. He appears to be a pretty solid corner also.

  3. Thanks Damon, he’s new to the school and I haven’t learned everyones name yet. Shame about the blocked field goal attempt last week, it was just a fluke. He will have many more chances to WIN ballgames for the team.

  4. Andy,
Will Newman was injuried on the first play of the game, however, completed the first series injuried with a 6 yard run, a 15 yard run and a 31 yard TD pass to start the scoring for Page. Will Newman was sidelined for the non-conference game and back up QB entered the game with multiple fumbles and sacks but held on to have DJ Mc Neil run the ball.

  5. Guys, thanks for the input. We had six games covered with our AM950 and Greensbotrosports.com crew and are looking forward to this week’s upcoming games. Paul Lambeth, Dennis White, Greg Johnson, Pat Nesbitt, Mike Raybon, and William Graves Sr. were on the road for us.
