Grimsley will be going for State Soccer Title

The Whirlies defeated North Mecklenburg 1-0 on Wednesday night and now they will face Raleigh Broughton for the boys State 4-A soccer championship. The soccer/basketball ace David Dupont scored the lone Whirlie goal and keeper Will Curtis had 2 saves in goal for Grimsley. North Meck was playing a man down for much of the game and the Whirlies took full advantage and will now go for the title.

Grimsley is now (20-3-1) while Broughton stands at (27-0-1). Shavlik Randolph is one of the big names that came out of Broughton and he played basketball and was at Duke and then he left early for the pros. Shea Ralph came out of Broughton and she played hoops for the women at UConn.

The Grimsley boys baskteball team will have to wait a few more days for Dupont and Johnathan Leonard to show up for practice. Keith Manley, JB Beloved, Carter Gourley, and Alex Booe will have to go harder until the soccer guys arrive.

  1. Glad this findly got posted, big accompishment for the guys. It will be a big challenge going up against Broughton ( No.2 in the nation). GO WHIRLIES!

  2. A mild error in your article above: Shea Ralph did not play her high school basketball at Raleigh-Broughton. She attended Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville, NC before moving on to UCONN.
