UNCG rolls at home:College roundup

GREENSBORO, NC – Kevin Oleksiak’s season-high 28 points and a 19-0 run in the second half propelled UNC Greensboro to its fourth straight win, an 80-62 triumph over Central Arkansas in men’s basketball action Tuesday night at Fleming Gym.

With fellow three-point gunner Mikko Koivisto nursing a sore ankle and not in uniform, Oleksiak gave the Spartans (7-4) a much-needed lift, going 5-for-5 from three-point range. He entered the game averaging 13.3 ppg in UNCG’s three-game winning streak and boosted that number significantly on Tuesday. In the last four games, Oleksiak is now averaging 17.0 points during the Spartans’ current winning streak.

Prior to the current streak, Oleksiak averaged 6.9 points in the first seven contests.

Greensboro College 88, Newport News Apprentice 85-Adam Nicholson scored a career-high 30 points in the Pride’s win at Hanes Gym. Josh Brown had a double-double for GC with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

GREENSBORO, NC – A blistering start by homestanding Greensboro College and a 16-0 run early in the second half by the hosts proved to be too much to overcome on Wednesday night as the Apprentice School fell 88-85 to the Pride at Hanes Gymnasium.

The Pride opened the game hitting 6-of-8 from the floor and raced out to a 15-4 lead on a Michael McDuffie jumper with 15:05 left. The Builders responded with an 11-3 spurt finished by an Antione Paige 3-pointer for an 18-15 deficit with 10:28 remaining. That proved to be as close as the Builders got throughout the night.
