HPU Introduces Keilitz as New Director of Athletics

HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 9, 2008 – Wake Forest University Associate Athletic Director Craig Keilitz has been appointed High Point University’s new Director of Athletics. He was formally introduced at a press conference at 2 p.m. today in the Steele Sports Center.

Keilitz will direct the development and growth of HPU’s NCAA Division I athletics program and will report directly to the president. His responsibilities, to begin on Feb. 1, will include supervision of 16 sports, fundraising, marketing, compliance and sports information.

“Mr. Keilitz will be instrumental in promoting academic and athletic excellence at High Point University,” said Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU. “We welcome him to the HPU family.”

Keilitz is coming to HPU from Wake Forest University, where he serves as Associate Athletic Director. At WFU, Keilitz currently supervises marketing and promotions, media relations, operations and event management, marching and pep bands, cheerleading and dance teams, athletic facilities, and baseball and women’s volleyball. He also serves as the liaison between the WFU athletics department and International Sports Properties. He has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Marketing Committee, the Athletic Director’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Athletic Director’s Executive Staff.

Keilitz began his WFU career in 1996 as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, directly supervising NCAA Compliance. He then was named WFU’s Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations, overseeing NCAA Compliance, sports medicine, summer camps and more. He was the Chair of the Wake Forest University Athletic Gender Equity Committee and a member of the ACC’s Compliance Committee and Gender Equity Committee. He also served on WFU’s Alcohol Task Force.

“Craig Keilitz has all the characteristics of an outstanding athletic director,” said WFU Athletic Director Ron Wellman. “He is personable and is a good decision-maker, a visionary and an implementer. He was a major asset at WFU and we hate to lose him, but we know that he will be a great fit at HPU.”

Prior to his WFU career, Keilitz was the Director of Compliance at the University of Michigan, overseeing NCAA Compliance. He began working at the University of Michigan in 1993 as the Assistant Compliance Coordinator.

Keilitz received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with a minor in marketing from Central Michigan University in 1991, and a master’s of Sports Administrations from Ohio University in 1992.
