The ACC Today and tonight

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Ty Lawson’s speed got North Carolina started, and Tyler Hansbrough’s size eventually proved too much for Miami.

Hansbrough scored 27 of his season-high 35 points after halftime, Lawson scored 15 of his 23 points in the opening 20 minutes, and the fifth-ranked Tar Heels got back to their winning ways by beating the Hurricanes 98-82 on Wednesday night.

Hansbrough made 10 of 15 shots from the floor and 15 of 16 from the line.

Wayne Ellington added 12 points for North Carolina (19-1, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), which lost its No. 1 ranking after an 82-80 home loss to Maryland on Saturday. But losing rarely becomes a Tar Heel trend: Excluding season-ending defeats, North Carolina is now 24-4 after a loss in the Roy Williams era.
*****I was watching the game on TV 48 and I got tired of hearing Tim Brando and some guy that was trying to help and headed for the radio and 94.1FM. The radio guys do a much better job than the TV guys and with Woody Durham, Eric Montross, and Jones Angel you are going to get a good idea of what’s going on.

Did you hear Jason Capel trying to do color with Steve Martin last Saturday night on the N.C. State-Miami game? It was almost as bad as watching Jay Bilas back when he was just getting started. Maybe Capel will get better, Bilas sure did, and what was up with them attempting to show the last shot of the game, the game-winner by N.C. State, and you couldn’t even see it. The TV people missed the quick steal of the in-bounds pass by Gavin Grant and then the basket by Grant to win it at the end of OT. They kept showing the last the play and the shot, but all you could see was some guy’s fist sticking up in the air and blocking the view of everything. Anybody else catch all this?*****

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Matt Causey had 18 points while Anthony Morrow went 4-for-4 at the line in the final 19 seconds to help Georgia Tech hold off North Carolina State 77-74 on Wednesday.

D’Andre Bell and Gani Lawal each added 13 points for the Yellow Jackets (9-9, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won in Raleigh for the first time in a dozen years thanks to a steady performance in the final 3 minutes.

Courtney Fells finished with a career-high 23 points to lead the Wolfpack (12-6, 1-3), who led by five points midway through the second half before the Yellow Jackets ran off 10 straight points to retake momentum. N.C. State came up with several clutch baskets to hang in, but ultimately the Wolfpack couldn’t get any needed stops down the stretch.
*****I listened to the game on 600 WSJS with Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes on the call and the Wolfpack would grab a lead and then the Yellow Jackets would come roaring right back and spoil everything for N.C. State at home in Raleigh.(First win by Tech there in 12 years). Morrow at the line killed the Pack at the end, he couldn’t and wouldn’t miss.*****
