EAST POINT, Ga. – Alex Starbuck’s (Kernersville, N.C./E. Forsyth) two-run double highlighted Guilford College’s five-run sixth inning and lifted the visiting Quakers past Atlanta Christian College Friday night, 7-3.
Guilford evens its record at 1-1. The Chargers drop to 1-4 with the loss.
Senior Josh Lane (Winston-Salem, N.C./Reynolds (Wilkes C.C.)) earned the win in relief of starter Drew Gurkin (Youngsville, N.C./Chatham (Va.) (Danville C.C.)) with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Junior Tim Lucas (Asheboro, N.C./SW Randolph (Southeastern C.C.)) threw the final two frames for his first Guilford save.
Guilford’s Brad Buchman (Indian Shores, Fla./Tampa Prep (Lenoir-Rhyne)) belted his second homer in as many games, a two-run shot in the first inning. Starbuck finished with two hits in the game, as did teammate Josh Sumler (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland (Rappahannock C.C.)).
Sophomore Chris Thompson (Conyers, Ga.) took the loss for Atlanta Christian.
Guilford continues its three-game swing through Georgia Saturday (2/9) at Piedmont College. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
