Guilford College Athletics Update

Guilford’s men’s basketball team defeated visiting Lynchburg College Saturday for its eighth straight win. Ben Strong scored 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way. He also scored his 2,000th career point, a feat accomplished by just three other men’s basketball players. The Quakers’ women’s basketball team dropped a 78-56 Old Dominion Athletic Conference decision at Eastern Mennonite University Saturday afternoon. Tracey Croner scored a team-high 16 points and Lauren LeFevers added 14 for Guilford. Guilford’s baseball team erased a six-run deficit, but host Piedmont scored a one-out run in the 10th inning to pull out a 9-8 victory. Josh Sumler had three hits for Guilford and Ryan Hairston fanned seven in 5.1 innings of scoreless relief. The Quakers’ women’s swimming team split a double-dual Old Dominion Athletic Conference meet at Hollins University with Washington and Lee. Guilford dropped a 68-27 decision to the Generals, but defeated the hosts, 69-31. Guilford concludes the dual-meet portion of its schedule with an 8-5 overall record, 4-3 ODAC, setting school records for overall and league wins in a season.
