RILEY POWERS EASTERN MENNONITE TO WOMEN’S HOOPS WIN OVER GUILFORD
Harrisonburg, Va. — Carolyn Riley scored 18 of her game-high 24 points as host Eastern Mennonite scored a 78-56 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Guilford College Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Royals (16-5, 12-5 ODAC) a sweep of the season series with the Quakers (10-11, 5-11 ODAC).
Riley made nine-of-11 first-half shots, which enabled Eastern Mennonite to build a 42-19 halftime advantage. Guilford’s Tracey Croner scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the half, but the Quakers could not overcome 28.6 percent shooting from the floor. Eastern Mennonite had a 28-12 rebounding advantage in the first half and converted nine offensive boards into 13 points. Guilford never overcame the first half as the Royals’ margin grew to as many as 30 points in the second half.
For the game, Riley shot 11-for-16 from the floor and added six rebounds and four steals. Brittany Snyder scored 11 points off the bench for Eastern Mennonite, which shot just under 51 percent from the field for the game.
Guilford rookie Lauren LeFevers knocked down four three-pointers and matched her career high with 14 points off the bench.
The Quakers return to action Tuesday (2/12) at home against league-rival Washington and Lee University. Eastern Mennonite’s next game is Saturday 2/16) versus Washington and Lee.
