Guilford College Athletics Update

Guilford’s men’s basketball team clinched the top seed for next week’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament with a 65-52 road win at league-rival Washington and Lee University. Ben Strong led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds for his league-leading 17th double-double of the season. Eric Belkoski added 12 points. The Quakers’ baseball team downed visiting Averett University Wednesday afternoon, 9-4. Josh Lane threw a complete game and struck out a career-high seven batters. Phil Drew and Jason Flud paced the offense with three hits and three RBIs apiece. Guilford’s softball team picked up its first win over Greensboro College since 1990 by winning the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday, 8-5. The Quakers overcame a 5-1 deficit thanks to a seven-run fifth inning that included two RBIs by Ami Hutcherson. Kelly Hale had three hits and DeNina Eldridge moved to 2-0 with the win. The Quakers trailed the Pride, 5-2, headed into the fifth inning of the second game. Guilford scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game before it was called on account of darkness and recorded as a 5-5 tie. Taryn Pulvermuller went two-for-three with three RBIs.
