Greensboro Mens / Womens Lacrosse Teams Drop Games

Mens Lacrosse : Goucher 10, GC 6

Greensboro, NC — Jose Rodriguez had a game-high 4 goals, but Greensboro College (0-1) lost its season opener, 10-6,to visiting Goucher College (1-0) at Pride Field on Saturday.

The home club posted the match’s first two tallies. Andrew Reidenbacker scored off a pass from Brandon Savage with 5:58 remaining in the first period. Rodriquez found the net with 13:46 left in the second quarter.

Goucher scored and then Rodriguez netted a goal off a pass from Savage to make the score 3-1 with 12:13 before the half.

The Gophers, however, recorded the match’s next 5 goals. They led 5-3 at halftime and 8-5 after 3 quarters.

Goucher had 35 shots to 31 for The Pride and won 11-20 face-offs. Austin Mann stopped 15 GC shots and Mike Forderaro had 11 saves for Greensboro.

Sam Fitzpatrick had 3 goals and Dave Duff scored and assisted twice for the Gophers.

Womens Lacrosse: CNU 15, GC 7

Greensboro, N.C. — Christopher Newport broke open a close game with a big second half and defeated Greensboro College (0-2), 15-7, in a USA South game at Pride Field.

Caroline Young netted the match’s first two goal and GC was ahead 2-0 with 22:52 left in the first half. The Captains rallied and the teams were tied 5-5 at halftime.

The visitors outscored GC 10-2 in the final 30 minutes for the final margin. CNU led 8-6 with 20:10 remaining but scored 6 straight times and 7 of the game’s last 8 goals.

Freshman Toni Battaglia scored twice and had one assist and Stacey Pulskamp had 19 saves for GC. In addtion to Young and Battaglia, Christie Hebert also scored two times.

Natalie Gilbert and Lisa Thomson both recorded 3 goals for CNU (1-1). CNU out shot GC 40-23.
