Guilford College Athletic Updates

Guilford’s season-opening tennis matches, scheduled for Feb. 23 at Emory & Henry College, were postponed. The makeup date has not yet been determined.

The Quakers’ men’s basketball team closed out the regular season with a 122-104 home win over Emory & Henry. Eric Belkoski and Clay Henson led six Quakers in double-figure scoring with 21 points apiece. Ben Strong recorded his 18th double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Guilford’s women’s basketball team saw its season end Friday night at Randolph College, 60-59. Lauren LeFevers led the Quakers with 15 points. Ann Seufer scored 12 points and broke her own school record for three-pointers in a season. The Quakers’ baseball team stretched its winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Wabash College Saturday. Ryan Hairston tossed a complete-game five-hitter and Phil Drew provided the offense with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Guilford took game two, 11-7, thanks to five runs batted in from Joe John. John went two-for-three with three runs scored. Drew, Alex Starbuck and Drew Ward all had three hits for Guilford. The Quakers’ men’s lacrosse team fell to visiting York (Pa.) College Saturday in the season opener for both teams, 15-4. Tyler Zivic scored a goal and an assist in the loss. Guilford’s golf team remained in seventh place in the first Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Poll, released Thursday. The Quakers trail Oglethorpe, Methodist, Huntingdon, St. John’s (Minn.), Gustavus Adolphus and Rhodes.
