HS hoops updates on sectional semis

We lost a few more of our girls teams last night and some of those we saw get knocked out caught us off guard, but some of the ones that moved forward have made today’s installment the center of our attention.

The Dudley girls and Helen Terry took to the road and picked up a huge win over Rocky Mount 57-56. Dudley(21-7) will play host to SW Edgecombe in the 3-A East sectional final on Friday night. Fellow Triad 3-A member Northeast Guilford fell to Eastern Alamance last evening 37-32 in a low scoring affair. NEG was the favored team, but for the Rams, their season is over. Talk about a low score, did you catch the Ragsdale-Glenn girl’s final? 35-23 Ragsdale takes out Glenn in Jamestown and the Tigers had to overcome slow-down tactics by the Bobcats. Ragsdale will travel to Statesville for the sectional final exam on Friday.

A shocker for Milton Jenkins and his mighty ‘Cats from Eastern Guilford. The Wildcats went on down to Northwest Halifax, just outside of Nova Scotia, and the ‘Cats came back with a victory. Young freshman Miranda Jenkins led the EG girls to a huge upset over NW Halifax 63-61. Halifax thought all they would have to is fax this one in to the NCHSAA but EG stole the game with MJ(Miranda Jenkins) hitting for 27 points and the game-winner with only six seconds left on the clock. Amirah Jamison added 23 for the ‘Cats who play the #1 Graham Red Devils on Friday night, at Graham.

Southeast Guilford topped Southwest in the all-Guilford County 3-A battle with Amy Beasley bringing home the ball after scoring 23 points to pace the Falcons. Ms. Beasley was hitting three-pointers and free throws just like she used to in the back yard when her dad David Beasley was watching. Haley Hackett, daughter of Joey Hackett, hit for 12 points and pulled down some big rebounds inside to help the Falcons earn the 55-45 win. SEG will travel to Concord on Friday night.

We get a lot of talk going on here at the web site about Grimsley and Page and what about Page and Grimsley? Page(21-6) lost on the road at McDowell County, 61-46, and the Pirates’ season is over. Jasmine Gill in her last game as a Pirate led them with 24 points and Nini Whitaker poured in seven. For Grimsley, the beat goes on. The Whirlies moved to (28-0) with their 69-30 win against South Caldwell and now it’s Concord Robinson, a 78-73 victor over Mount Tabor, at Grimsley on Friday night. Trumae Lucas had 23 for GHS, Kristin Fields had 21, and Jasmine Alston added 10 and played what have been the best defensive game of her life up to this point. Nicole Hargraves led the GHS rebounding and took care of the shot blocking. Our other Guilford County Metro 4-A member found the road a bit long and tough as High Point Central went down at North Mecklenburg, 74-45.

For the boys tonight in the sectional semis it looks like:
4-A’s
Watauga(10-15) at Page(17-11)
Charlotte Garinger(13-14) at Grimsley(22-4)

3-A’s
Oxford Webb(19-6) at Dudley(25-2)*****Oxford Webb, same school Dudley beat in round four of the NCHSAA football playoffs on the way to the Panthers’ State championship.*****
Northeast Guilford(19-9) at Southern Lee(25-3)
Northern Guilford(19-8) at Rocky Mount(18-6)*****Are the other teams tired of getting beat by our NG 9th and 10th graders yet?*****
High Point Andrews(20-6) at Trinity(26-1)
Ragsdale(23-4) at Glenn(18-8)

2-A’s
Pittsboro Northwood(19-5) at Eastern Guilford(15-11)*****Game to be played at the EG Middle School and watch out for Northwood’s Tobias Palmer and his younger brother Arnie*****

  1. Andy – check the brackets…I think the Ragsdale girls are at home Friday night to take on Statesville. Both have # 1 seed from their conference but MidPiedmont (Ragsdale) has a higher priority than North Piedmont (Statesville) so Ragsdale gets the home game.

  2. I was going by the News and Record listing and I’ll take a trip to the NCHSAA board and give it a look.
    Thanks

  3. I’ll think we’ll have to chalk one up for the Yankee Clipper with Ragsdale and Statesville both #1 seeds and the Mid-Piedmont conference having priority over the North Piedmont in the top bracket, then Ragsdale should be at home.

Southeast Guilford was close under that set of circumstances but they look to still be on the road.
