The Trinity Bulldogs put and end to the season for the High Point Andrews Red Raiders last night with Josh Pittman hitting for 22 points in the ‘Dogs 57-37 victory. What is it about Trinity and all these kids named Josh? Josh Pittman, Josh Jones, both on this year’s squad and Josh King from a few year’s back.
The key to the Dudley Panthers win over a tough Oxford Webb Warriors team last night was how the Panthers responded when the Warriors cut the lead to 50-45 in the fourth and final quarter. Dudley went on a 8-0 run to go up 58-45 and ended up out-scoring Webb 22-11 the rest of the way to win the ball game 72-56. Dudley will meet Southern Lee(26-3) for the sectional title tonight at Dudley. Southern Lee defeated Northeast Guilford 77-72 last night to bring the NEG Rams’ year to a halt.
Dudley will need to get the ball inside tonight to Pennix and Hairston so they can use their strengths. Dudley got into foul trouble in the second half last evening and had to sit Brandon Pennix, Marcus Heath, and Brenan Wyatt. Mike Coger, Chris Whitsett, and Josh Cobb had to come in and provide some quick backup.
Page was a winner last night and so was Grimsley in boy’s area sectional semifinal games. Page took care of Watauga 56-49, in a game that started at 6pm and lasted an hour and ten minutes. That might be close to some kind of record, with the 7;10pm finish. Deonte Maddox led the Pirates with 15 and Christian McCain was a force inside with 8 points and numerous rebounds. Page will host North Mecklenburg(23-5) in the sectional finals tonight at 7pm in the Mac Morris Gym and as someone said earlier, Julius Brooks and Luqman Tijani need to have big games and Jordan Weethe will need to light it up from the outside.
Grimsley did not have any problem with Charlotte Garinger winnig by 20, 69-49. Keith Manley was the main man for the Whirlies with 22 points/17 rebounds and Christian Tonkins added 15/10 and JB Beloved pumped in 18 points and had 7 boards. Tonight the Whirlies will face Mount Tabor(25-3) at the Bob Sawyer Gym.
